Using the DCM6 in Frontier
Overview
NDSL has introduced the DCM6 as the successor to the DCM5. It provides improved accuracy and a pluggable design that facilitates installation and field support.
The new product range comprises:
- DCM6-H for most VRLA installations (4-16 volt cells)
- DCM6-L for low voltage systems (NiCAD and 2-volt cells)
- DCM6-R for string voltage and ripple measurement when using DCM6-L
The objectives of the DCM6 family were to:
- Refresh the design, remove obsolete components, and ensure a stable supply chain for production.
- Add connector to allow for simple replacement (eases installation and replacement)
- Improve reliability (MTBF of new design is 349 years)
- Improve manufacturability and increase test capacity
- Expand the low-end operating range (DCM6-L operates down to 3.5 volts meaning expanded discharge capture range) and allowing for the measurement of 1.25-volt NiCad cells.
- Improve design for Environmental Protection manufacturing process thus improving yields
